BMW SUV line-up
BMW offers an impressive range of nine SUV models, each boasting its own distinct features.
Whether you’re looking for a smaller, cosy SUV for your day-to-day commute, a mid-size model with ample storage, or a seven-seater family vehicle, there’s a model in the range for you. We’ve broken down each model in the range to help you find the right BMW SUV, which includes X1, X2, X3, X4, X5, X5, X6, X7, iX, and XM.
What is the difference between the odd- and even-numbered BMW SUV models?
The odd-numbered models (the X1, X3, X5, and X7) maintain a conventional SUV shape – a high roofline and a bulky squared rear. These offer the practicality and space that’s synonymous with the SUV vehicle shape.
The even-numbered vehicles (the X2, X4, and X6) are fundamentally coupé versions of the odd-numbered variants. These models feature a sportier body and lower roofline, offering a more dynamic driving experience to the traditional SUV.
Do all BMW SUVs offer four-wheel drive?
No. Most X1 and X2 models are available with two-wheel drive, along with some X3 and X5 models. A quick way to identify a model’s drivetrain is by the badge on its boot lid. Four-wheel drive models will have a ‘xDRIVE’ badge, while two-wheel drive models have an ‘sDRIVE’ badge.
What BMW SUV models come in hybrid or electric variants?
The X1, X2, X3, and X5 come with plug-in hybrid (PHEV) options, and the XM is exclusively available as a plug-in hybrid. If you are interested in fully electric SUV models, BMW offers the iX1, iX2, and iX3, as well as the iX – a fully electric SUV roughly the size of the X5.
What is the sporty range of BMW SUVs?
All BMW SUV models come with a sporty counterpart, which bear the ‘M’ badge. While the initial costs and maintenance costs are higher for these models, the driving experience is next level. These high-performance models include the X3 M, X4 M, X5 M, X6 M, and XM.
BMW SUV models
BMW X1
The X1 is essentially an introduction to the BMW SUV family. It’s a compact SUV that offers substantial space, making it a great family car. Its ease of driving and managing means it suits anyone, whether you’re a single person, couple, or have a small family.
BMW X2
The X2 is the sporty sibling to the X1, sacrificing some practicality in favour of dynamic styling and driving experience. It’s the coupé’s answer to the compact SUV, offering fans of the entry level SUV the chance to dial up the performance.
BMW X3
The X3 increases in size to offer more space and practicality. Its size, shape, and interior offers the perfect blend of comfort and performance. Its competitors include the Audi Q5 and Mercedes-Benz GLC.
BMW X4
The X4 takes the X3, restyles it, and adds a more exciting driving experience. While it priorities style and performance, it maintains the comfort and practicality of its conventional counterpart.
BMW X5
The X5 incorporates all the beloved elements of the X1 and X3 and makes them bigger, in terms of both physical appearance and personality. If family time, road trips, and exploration and adventure are your style, the X5 could be for you. It offers an optional third row that folds out from the boot space, taking practicality to the next level. Featuring a two-piece boot lid, the X5 is a fantastic option for dog owners.
BMW X6
If versatility is on your checklist, look no further than the X6. A sportier version of the X5, the adaptable X6 has a distinctive design that makes it instantly recognisable. Combining style and performance with practicality and comfort, it’s the perfect choice for families looking to take their motoring experience up a notch.
BMW X7
The X7 is BMW’s biggest and most luxurious model in its SUV line-up. It offers ample space for seven passengers, an incredibly generous boot space, and a variety of high tech features. The X7’s standard third row can comfortably accommodate adults, and features luxury features like armrests, cup holders, and heated seats. Like the X5, the X7 comes with a two-piece boot lid with lower halves that fold down.
BMW XM
The XM is slightly smaller than the X7, but remains generous with its interior space and comfort. Only available as a plug-in hybrid, the XM offers a driving experience that is second to none, while boasting a luxury interior, high-tech features, and an impressive price tag. Competitors to this model come from the likes of Aston Martin and Porsche.
BMW iX
The iX is BMW’s fully-electric SUV that is most similar to the X5. The futuristic design and unique driving experience make it a sought-after model in the SUV line-up, especially as it offers up to 380 miles on a full charge.
Whether you’re looking to invest in a vehicle that suits your family’s weekend adventures, your eco-friendly conscious, or your high-performance needs, the BMW SUV line-up includes a model for you.
