Audi hatchbacks - which one is right for you?

12 Nov 2024

Audi is home to a great hatchback model line-up, whether you’re looking for something sporty, stylish, or compact. Many first-time drivers or single people prefer the convenience of a hatchback, and Audi’s models offer a variety of hatchbacks in a range of trims, meaning you get the benefit of the widest-opening boots and easier parking without being limited to a small vehicle.

We delved into what sets each Audi hatchback apart so you can choose the right one for your lifestyle.

Audi A1

The A1 is Audi’s smallest model – aside from the Audi TT coupe – but that doesn’t mean it’s not practical. Five seats, rear doors, and a 335-litre boot are all aspects to the second-generation A1, setting it apart from other hatchbacks in the market.

Thanks to the A1 sharing many parts with the Volkswagen Polo and SEAT Ibiza, part replacements (if needed) won’t break the bank but you still get the experience that comes with the premium Audi brand. If you’re used to city driving and commuting with the occasional need for passengers, the Audi A1 is for you.

Audi A3

The A3 is perhaps the most popular hatchback from Audi, and it’s perfectly justifiable. Similar to the A1 sharing parts with other cars, the A3 shares many components with the Volkswagen Golf, SEAT Leon, and Skoda Octavia, making it fairly straightforward and affordable if replacements are needed.

It’s the smallest Audi hatchback you can get that offers a plug-in hybrid version, allowing you to save money at the fuel pump by using electric power for some of your miles. The A3 is a premium model that includes a high-quality interior, advanced technology, and a range of configurations, but comes without the hefty price tag of its direct competitors, the Mercedes-Benz A-Class and BMW 1 Series.

Audi S3

If the Audi A3 takes your fancy but you’re looking for something a bit sportier and quicker, look no further than the Audi S3. Based on the A3, the S3 is more dynamic, offering sporty style enhancements, a firmer suspension, and a 0-62mph in 4.8 seconds, all while maintaining the practicality, convenience, and personality of the A3.

If you’re looking for something more high-performance, the Audi RS3 may be up your street, but as sporty hatchbacks go, the Audi S3 is a fantastic option.
