Our Favourite Used Convertible Cars
The British weather may be playing tricks on us with beautiful sunshine one day and down pours of rain the next but longer days and better weather (hopefully) will be here in no time. It’s time to start thinking about those sunny road trips and warm evening drives with the roof down.
We look at some of our favourite used convertible cars in our latest guide:
Mini Convertible
The MINI Convertible is stylish, compact, and fun to drive. It’s perfect for zipping around town and enjoying the sun. Boasting a comfortable cabin, the Mini Convertible surprises with ample legroom, and plenty of shoulder and headroom with the roof up, so taller drivers don’t have to worry about spending more.
When it comes to safety, the Mini Convertible comes with a good level of safety kit that includes six airbags, a wide range of electronic driving aids, and pop-up hoods that kick in if the car rolls over in an accident.
Good performance and an enjoyable drive are two key factors when you’re looking for a used convertible car, and the Mini offers both. When it comes to the drive, Mini pride themselves on ‘fun-filled and joyous’ driving experiences, and their choice of three petrol engines make their pledge a reality. The entry-level Mini Convertible comes with a 126 horsepower engine, the Cooper S version boasts a 192 horsepower engine that offers the performance you’d expect from a hot hatch, and the John Cooper Works model offers an impressive 132 horsepower engine that packs a real punch.
Jaguar F-Type
The Jaguar brand is one that exhumes luxury and sport, and the Jaguar F-Type is the perfect example, as this powerful and agile convertible is a popular choice for car enthusiasts on the hunt for a combination of high performance and prestige. The stylish design of the Jaguar F-Type is one key reason the car is as popular as it is, with its long hood, wide stance, and aggressive lines coming together to form a sleek and sporty convertible that turns heads.
To match the Jaguar F-Type’s eye-catching design is its choice of impressive engines. This range includes a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, a 3.0-liter V6 engine, and a 5.0-liter V8 engine, all of which deliver fantastic performance, with the V8 engine options producing up to 575 horsepower.
When it comes to handling, the Jaguar F-Type ticks the boxes, with its precise and responsive steering making it a pleasure to drive on winding roads. Its suspension is well tuned to balance sportiness and comfort, and its brakes are strong and responsive.
As expected with a premium brand like Jaguar, the F-Type Convertible is kitted out with a solid range of advanced technology features, including a touchscreen infotainment system, an impressive sound system, and advanced safety features like lane departure warning and automatic emergency braking.
Mazda MX-5
A favourite amongst motorists, the Mazda MX-5 is all about pure driving pleasure, with its lightweight design, responsive handling, and open-top experience. Whether you’re cruising along scenic roads or tackling twisty bends, the MX-5 delivers an exhilarating ride. If you’re passionate about driving, the MX-5 is a fantastic choice!
The Mazda MX-5 is a two seater sports car with a distinctive, sleek silhouette. The compact dimensions make it great for city driving, and its soft suspension ensures a brilliant ride
Abarth 124 Spider
Manufactured by Mazda under the Abarth marque, the 124 Spider is an exciting, high-performance version of the Fiat 124 Spider, and this model offers plenty of thrills! Known for its easy handling and fantastic performance, the Abarth 124 Spider is the ideal option if you’re looking for an aggressive two-seater roadster.
With its infamous Abarth Scorpion badges, blacked-out wheels, and striking red trim, the 124 Spider stands out from the crowd, and that continues in the interior with the car’s alcantara trim and Abarth sport seating with red stitching.
Many convertible enthusiasts believed that the Mazda MX-5’s chassis could comfortably handle some more engine power, and the Abarth 124 Spider proves just that. Its 1.4 MultiAir turbo petrol engine has had a power boost, and now offers 168bhp and an impressive 250Nm of torque. It's not just the performance that impresses, but the fantastic sound. Installed on the 124 Spider is the Record Monza Exhaust System, which creates a very satisfying noise indeed - you’ll hear it before you see it!
